Living Large - Finding Your Purpose in Life

"The purpose of life is living. Men and women should get the most they can out of their lives." -Clarence Darrow, Famous American Lawyer and ACLU Leader,Clarence Darrow books//

What is your purpose in life? State it in a concise sentence right now. I'll start. My purpose in life is:

To be a great husband, father, friend and leader who makes a positive difference in the world.

A purpose statement is broad yet clear. It is not a goal, strategy or objective. It is a guiding principle that provides context and focus. To put it figuratively, it is that ray of light on the horizon guiding you toward your destination.

Creating a specific purpose statement for your life is like putting a car in gear. Without a clear purpose, you are stuck in park or neutral. Lack of purpose altogether is why many peoples' lives are heading in reverse.

How do I plan on fulfilling my purpose? By leveraging my strengths and getting the most out of this life that I can, as Darrow suggests. My approach to living life is active not passive; involved not indifferent; engaged not idle; and, impassioned not apathetic. In short, my life is about living large!

Too many peoples' lives are about living small. They wait for opportunities to come to them, rather than making things happen for themselves. They watch and wonder why good things happen to others but not them. They put off to tomorrow all of the things that could be done today to improve their circumstances. Why do they do this? What are they waiting for?

No one will give you a purpose in life - you have to create one for yourself.

Purpose keeps us moving forward. Think about what you really want to get out of life, then take the time to write down a specific purpose statement. Once you have it, recite it daily to remind you that life is about living, and you might as well shoot for living large!

Oh my God, all of that is so true. I always argue with my friends about destiny. Some of my friends think that destiny is already waiting for us. But, I desagree. Because as humans beings we have the power of make changes in our lives. Wherever that someone wants for his or her future can happen if one works for it. Nothing is going to come by itself; death it is going to look for you . That is the only thing that we have guaranty of. So, take the most out of your life. After all we only have one opportunity.

Geisha,

Thanks for the comment. You seem to be alluding to the difference between Free Will and Predestination. Personally, I don't think they have to conflict. Either way, I think that you're right - it's up to us to make the most of the life we've got...and I think any supreme being would want us to live that way.
