"The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn." -Gloria Steinem, American Feminist, Journalist and Women's Rights Activist, Gloria Steinem books//
Learning is easy. Our brains work like a computer with a really powerful word processor, so anything that you type in and "Save" will be stored in a file that can be accessed at a later date. The problem with most people, though, is that they tend to save their files in a "Read Only" format, which means that they are unable to edit them in the future. In addition, many of these learning files are "locked" inside the brain, and the password is so StRoNg77 that it is often forgotten. Unfortunately for us, our brain doesn't come equipped with an administrator to resend passwords, retrieve documents and unlock files.
The challenge, therefore, as Steinem says, "is not to learn, but to unlearn," or edit the files stored in our brain. It has been said that it takes three days to build a habit and three weeks to break one, which has a lot to do with the speed at which we are able to learn and unlearn things. Learning is a creative process that we are taught by parents, teachers and trial and error; however, unlearning is a destructive process that only hard work and deliberate effort allows you to complete.
So, why is it important to go through the difficult process of unlearning, when it would be a lot easier to just create a new "file" by learning something in a different way? Because the first way you learned it is like the "Index" file, and the new way is like a "linked" page. As long as the Index file remains, so to will the belief or learning. If you truly want to unlearn something, especially things like prejudice, bigotry, racism, intolerance, discrimination or chauvinism, then you need to erase the Index files from your memory. Essentially, you need a Window Washerprogram for your brain.
Learning is easy; unlearning is hard. Once you unlearn false or negative beliefs, you will be free to learn the truth and experience the wonderful things in life.

When you find that Window Cleaner for the brain, be sure to share with us!! :)
Great article tho, wish there was a way to easily unlearn things!
I wish it was easier too! I'll be sure to share anything I can that helps. Thanks for the comment!
This article is so true. I keep up to date on technology as much a possible, or as much as I can afford. Anyway, I have a cell phone that does it all (video, music, pics, web) and the other day a friend asked me to help them with the address book in their phone. Just a simple flip phone, no extras. I really had to go back in time to remember how those older phones worked. It took longer than It should have and I felt a bit stupid actually. But this article makes me feel much better. Now I know why. www.tylastarstruck.com
Glad you feel better grafikgirl! If I need help with my cell, now I know who to go to:) Thanks for the comment!
Good article and the Window Washer program is not bad too. However, the mixture of two goods planted a doubt. What was the main goal here?
The title "Learning is Easy; Unlearning is Hard" catches my eye, promts to think deeper, and I want to thank the heartily, but a smell of the promotional advertisement stops the applause and questions, what's that?
are we the buddies, or do you address me as a seller addresses his potential buyers ?
Thanks for the comment Tomas. The message of the post is always first. I write my thoughts, then add links after to provide additional information or leads.
